Occupational therapy is used when everyday activities are made more difficult by physical, cognitive, sensory or psychological strain. The focus is on what should work better in daily life.
Team Physiologic offers occupational therapy exclusively at the Wilhelmshaven location. Treatment may include exercises, everyday training, perception and concentration tasks, advice and complementary measures.
Motor-functional treatment
Motor-functional treatment addresses physical and functional limitations. It may be useful when mobility, strength, coordination or dexterity are restricted in everyday life.
The focus is often the functional use of the hand and arm, such as grasping, holding, writing, dressing or other daily activities. Exercises are adapted to the concrete situation.
Possible elements
- training mobility, strength and endurance for daily activities
- fine motor skills, hand dexterity and coordination
- practising everyday activities with appropriate physical demand
Psychosocial-functional treatment
Psychosocial-functional treatment supports participation, resilience and structure in everyday life. Goals are agreed individually and do not require visitors to identify with any specific diagnosis.
Within therapy, perception, concentration, daily structure, social and emotional abilities or dealing with demands can be practised. Goals and methods are agreed carefully and individually.
Possible focus areas
- building daily structure and reliable routines
- concentration, endurance and resilience
- perceiving personal limits and managing demands
Sensorimotor-perceptual treatment
Sensorimotor function describes the interaction between perception and movement. If sensory input is hard to process or movements feel clumsy, unsafe or difficult to plan, sensorimotor-perceptual treatment may be used.
Treatment may include sensory processing, coordination, balance, fine motor skills and body awareness. Practice is kept close to everyday life so that new strategies can be used at school, work, at home or during leisure activities.
Cognitive training
Cognitive training focuses on abilities such as attention, concentration, memory, orientation and problem solving. It may be used when thinking, planning or remembering becomes more difficult in everyday life.
Tasks are selected so that they are neither too easy nor overwhelming. They are often linked to daily situations, such as remembering appointments, planning steps or processing information in an organized way.
Areas that may be trained
- attention and concentration
- memory, orientation and action planning
- problem solving and flexible strategies for everyday life
Thermal applications
Thermal applications use heat or cold as a complementary occupational therapy measure. They may help prepare tissue, influence perception or support active treatment.
Whether heat or cold is useful depends on the findings and the goal of treatment. The application is not a standalone solution, but complements occupational therapy exercises and everyday training.
